We were fortunate enough to have Newbery-winning author, Linda Sue Park, visit our school recently. We could never afford to have her so we want to publicly thank the Memorial West Merchant’s Association for arranging it. Our 4th and 5th graders enjoyed her presentation about all of her books but especially her newest title, Keeping Score. It was clear how much research she had to do in order to write this book. She knows baseball! I’m pleased to say that her books have been flying off the shelf ever since! We started a blog, Parking It Here, about the themes in her books to help prepare for her visit. Please check out the Activities (use the sidebar to navigate to them) and comment on your own thoughts.

When Linda Sue Park came to visit, she was Great!!
Comment byMy favorite part was when she said on your first birthday, the chinnese parents would set out some things like, a pen, a cake, a dollar bill and ept.
Linda said that the thing her mother said that she picked was the pen, which means that she will be a writer, and what do you know? She is a writer now!!The funny part about the 1st B-Day thing is that most Chinese parents push the cake back because if the baby picks the cake it will become fat and lazy!! Plus she also said that her brother picked the dollar bill, and that now he is a plasic surgent. Plasitc Surgents make a lot of money. But I just really love the fact that she made time to come to or school and talk to us about her books and about her life.
